I read from the news today that Malaysia now bans ALL foreign registered cars from buying petrol within 50km from its borders. Guess who makes the decision? People from Kuala Lumpur who have no freaking idea that Johor Bahru makes the most money any other Malaysian state/city outside of Kuala Lumpur does!
With the implementation of such rule, petrol stations like the one near the causeway will make a huge loss since it solely depends on its Singaporean clients. Shopping Centres like the one in Jusco Tebrau City will see a drop in Singaporean shoppers. The car wash outside X-tra shopping centre will eventually see no Singaporean registered car EVER!
I think it is one of the most laughable and ridiculous decision ever made by a politician. Most Singaporeans not only go to Johor Bahru to top up fuel, but to shop, visit relatives, etc. 50km from the border means we can top up fuel only from Kota Tinggi onwards! I have relatives who stays in Kulai. And Kulai is within that 50km radius. How on Earth can I drive from Singapore to Kulai and all the way back to Singapore without topping the fuel? At some point my car tank will run dry. And where do you think I'm suppose to top up the fuel? How on Earth can I drive with an empty tank?????
GILA punya manusia!
In the words of a Malaysian Indian politician: "Naik Kereta Lembu Saja Lah!"
I have a suggestion for those policy makers in Kuala Lumpur who have no clue on how to solve the inflation crisis.... For goodness sake, drop the bloody ego already. Learn from Singapore's policies. For a start you can stop subsidizing petrol/food. Instead give monetary help to everyone depending on household income. In Singapore this is called the GST offset package, where every Singaporeans above the age of 21 are given money to help them tide over the increase in GST. The truth is people do not see the value of these subsidies. If you give them cash instead of subsidies and let them use it however they want, then people will appreciate it more! Saves you politicians from getting bashed by the opposition party. Malaysian politicians you better learn from your peers!
And in case you're ignorant, let me remind you that you have
1) Malaysians who hold Permanent Residency in Singapore and under Singapore's law, is allowed to drive only Singapore Registered vehicles.
2) Malaysians (who are Singapore PR) driving their Singapore Registered cars to work every day across the causeway into Malaysia.
3) Malaysians who actually works in Singapore but lives in Johor. Hence doesn't have to pay income tax to Malaysia.
And another thing. Stop paying for every students', rich or poor, for the text books and examination fees. Millions of RM can be saved and this money can be used to upgrade school facilities.
