I thought the Olympics opening ceremony is going to be one of those boring shows. But I was so very wrong! I think millions around the world will agree that the show put up by the Chinese were so spectacular!! It definitely has so much surprise elements that I just can't pull myself away from the tv to get a drink; thinking I'd miss out on something. The clever display of lights and music, props, flawless execution by the performers, dramatic lighting of the torch and fireworks is simply magic!! I think it was such a cool idea to represent the past 28 Olympic games with footprints that cover a stretch of Beijing. The Chinese really go all the way to make people happy. :) The introduction performance with the drums was really really nice.
I also love the Chinese painting drawn using dance moves. A pretty neat idea. And I also love love love the red dress the girls (who carried the country names) wore. I think it's such a lovely dress. I am sure so many will buy it if they actually sell it, that is. Anyway, speaking of costumes, I think the outfit the performers wore were so so so sleek, sophisticated, and stylish!! I am actually amazed at the number of people involved in the performances and hence the number of clothes the clothing manufacturers have to make.
Then when all was over, they started to introduce the 200 something teams taking part in the Olympics. Then I had this brilliant idea that came to my head. If Singapore has a whole lot of money, they'd probably buy out the entire China Team and maybe buy the Brazilian team as well. Then only will Singapore be the force to be reckon with!! I mean, look at our Team Singapore. Quite a number of them were previously Chinese national (ie Chinese Traitors!). If Singapore was that desperate to revive their dying ambitions to win a medal, imagine what we could do with billions of savings! WOOHOOO!!!
Ok, National Day Parade.
One word: Sucks. S-U-C-K-S.
The only thing I was impressed with were the fighter planes. They were amazing. And I hope they get a pay raise, because they actually saved the NDP from a pile of horse shit and made me (and the rest of Singapore) happy for the few minutes they were in the air. After they left, everything started to go downhill.
I am sad to say that I hate the sky diving segment already. It is not interesting. Its just seeing a few sky divers landing. What's the excitement? It has lost its charm, and I hope to see them go in the next NDP. But if the organizers can come up with something exciting, like surprise landing or something, than ok, I give chance. But... sorry to say, its stale.
The costumes: HIDEOUS!
I think the choreographer's / costume designers were drunk or something when they came up with the choreographs and costume. Why the hell they made clothes so hideous as chicken feathers and metal Mohawks to symbolise some rubbish like some unity or something. And the funny thing was, the chicken feathers were not intended to look like chicken feathers. But to reflect the lights of the city or something lame. What a stupid excuse.
Let me tell you you piece of shit, the costumes does not symbolise anything close to unity, determination, or whatever nonsense Singapore spirit you wanna use. I don't see Singapore spirit anywhere in their costumes!! They are FUGLY!!! Poor kids had to be wrapped in some hideous outfits. I can't stress enough just how hideous they were!! There was also poor usage of props. Whats the freaking umbrella for? How does it blend with the Mohawk on their heads? Stupid.
I feel so sad that after 18 years in this choreograph business, you can come up with a hideous piece for SINGAPORE?!!! You should be ashamed of yourself!
And did you notice the title for each performances? They sounded so intellectual, so you'd expect yourself to be wowed by it. But what they had for you was a disappointment! The performance were lame, and thanks to the commentator, she blew the surprise for me - the lame surprise where someone actually boxed themselves out. I was not surprised, I was not wowed. And judging from the amount of response they got from the audience after each performances, I know they did not dig the whole arts thing.
And, I think the cameramen were so fucking lousy. Home viewers had to miss out on some of the displays and we didn't really see the whole formation from the top. Lousy camera crew.
To sum it all, NDP was lousy. Save for that fighter planes. Otherwise, a disappointment from beginning to end.
