My Personal Take On LG Viewty

In 6 years, I've so far owned 2 different types of Nokia and Motorola phones each. Never dared to venture outside of these two phones because of scary stories from friends and MOTHER! Most said anything other than Nokia or Motorola, its an unreliable phone with unreliable service centers. But now that I'm matured and wiser (LOL!) I've decided that opinions can be subjective. I feel how your phone turns out (or just about anything you own) depends on how you take care of it. If you constantly drop it from a height or sleep with it on your bed, then of course its going to give you problems. But I won't deny that I've had my share of phone-dropping days and so far, all my previous phones are still in good working condition; except for minor scratches here and there... But nothing major. Never had to step foot on any of their service centers.

Anyway, I bought my new phone on Saturday. Been playing with it ever since. I've since found the things I love about this phone and its flaws. Nothing as major and disastrous as some experienced. But it's still a few days old. Hopefully nothing major will happen by then.

Actually, before I decided on this phone, I was torn between Sony Ericsson K850i, Nokia E51 and LG Viewty. I especially was leaning towards Nokia E51 due to its wi-fi capabilities and its pretty much everything in one phone. But the phone looks masculine and camera is a mere 2 megapixels. Which in today's standard is considered... outdated. But the wifi and its relatively cheap cost is a turn on (LOL!). But my boyfriend thinks its not worth it that I buy a wifi phone now. Since wireless network in Singapore is still 'unstable'. What he means is you need to find a hotspot. And having a wifi on a phone doesn't mean you can surf the net while on the move. You have to stick to a hotspot in certain places... like the mcdonald's for example. So wifi doesn't mean convenience.

So now it was down to the other two. I didn't look into LG Viewty until the night before I am about to buy one. It was on the suggestion of my boyfriend who thinks the phone is perfect for me. But before that, I was very much interested in SE K850i. The praises I read from forums about the phone is what attracted me to it. And I've always wanted to own an SE phone.

But that was before I knew of LG Viewty. Once I read the specs, I was totally blown away! And instantly, my mind was made up. I decided to buy an LG Viewty. Here's why:

The cool factor:

1) Touch Screen -- Though some find it a nuisance not having a normal numerical keypad, I find it interesting, appealing and cool! And I got a hang of it after a day of usage. And each time you click on something, it vibrates to let you know that you just clicked on it. A very useful feature. The only downside is, I can't type while on the move because there's no keypad to 'feel'. But its nothing major.

2) Video for voice ringtone -- I find this feature so COOL!! Once I knew about this, I instantly told my boyfriend about it and he's so freaking jealous!! Finally a phone that I can rave about to my boyfriend and knowing he will be bitter about it. HAHAHAHA!!

3) 5 megapixels camera -- Not as great as N95, but it still works for me. Its much clearer than my brother's Samsung i450 or even my Motorola phone and it makes my boyfriend jealous. So it was worth it!! The next couple of photos were taken with my LG Viewty.

Photos are both 1280 x 90.

Photo is 320 x 240.

There's loads of camera functions to choose from. You can change the ISO, the lighting, the zoom, photo editing, etc and there's even a macro mode. Basically whatever functions you can find on a basic camera, this phone camera has... and more.

I still remember the day when I went home with the phone in my hand. My sister thinks I got a free camera from Starhub. But actually its my phone! It does look like a camera from the back.

4) Pink -- And oh did I mention my phone is PINK?! I thought only black was available in Starhub. But I was wrong man. Other than black, they had silver and PINK!! Interestingly, I was told that only the pink models has a cover for the lens. The black model I read from cnet asia, had none.

5) Keypad -- I love the qwerty keypad. And there's the keypad-handwriting function too. Awesome tool.

6) Documents -- I read from somewhere you can read documents on this phone. Not too sure about this function. Have yet to try it out.

7) Slot -- I find the cover for the USB slot really useful. My Motorola phone had this rubber for some of its slot covers. Overtime it will just get peeled off. So its nice of LG to come up with something different.

8) Extremely light.

9) Video -- The video quality is unlike a 5 megapixel quality. But the coolest thing about it is, you can take a slow-motion video at 120frames/s. Interesting feature.

What I don't like:

1) The phone has been on the market for a long long long long time. Since then Stage6 has already closed down. So you can't download Divx videos for free anymore. But so far I found out it can support mp4 format. Not as clear as Divx, but I'll take what I can get.

2) It does not use the normal USB cable. Which can be really troublesome if you lug around so many different gadgets along with their cables when you travel. Otherwise, its just a minor problem.

3) It has no slots on the phone for the stylus. It comes separate. If there's any consolation for the ladies, it looks like a mascara. So the boys may not find it appealing at all!

4) The lens cover does not open automatically. You have to manually open it yourself.

5) Forgot to mention that the USB slot for the charger and earphones are the same. So you can't charge and use the earphones at the same time.

6) No wifi and gps. Would be great if it has one. But I can still live without it.

Other than that, this phone is sufficient for me. And like what my boyfriend suggested... it fits perfectly with my lifestyle!
